How do I Remove/Save my Desktop?
Last Updated 2 years ago

For standard users, applications such as Google Chrome, Sangoma, or Find Printers cannot be deleted. You do have control over your documents and folders.

Concerning documents and folders seen on the Desktop:

a. Please sort documents into folders to simplify the desktop, and then decide which folders ought to be on the desktop.

b. Before deleting anything, be certain that the icon in question is a shortcut. You can check by opening File Explorer> Desktop, and under the "File Type" any icon that is a shortcut will say "shortcut".

If it is a document, you can move it to Documents. Applications will remain on the desktop.

Thus, sorting your files via the above method is an important step.

c. To remove a specific document (a single file) from your desktop, either Move or Copy it in File Explorer from Desktop, to to a folder in Documents instead.

Move will mean the file vanishes from the Desktop and appears in the new location. Copying to Documents means you still must delete the old Copy on your Desktop by locating it in File Explorer >Desktop.

d. A simpler alternative is to merely hide your desktop icons until you need to see them again following these directions from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-or-resize-desktop-icons-2b9334e6-f8dc-7098-094f-7e681a87dd97#:~:text=To%20show%20or%20hide%20desktop,choose%20to%20show%20them%20again
